South Australia today has provided the new guidelines including waivers and skilled work experience requirements for international residents living and working in outer regional areas. They are as follows:

Current Residents in Outer Regional Area:

  • Residents working in outer regional area working in their nominated occupations or closely related occupations for at least 15 hours per week or 30 hours per fort night
  • Residents residing in South for the past 12 months and working in any occupation may be eligible to be nominated for a provisional 491 visa.
  • Residents residing in outer regional area for the past 12 months and working in any occupation may be eligible to be nominated for a 491 or 190 visa if your nominated occupation is one of the following:
    • Motor trades (ANZSCO 321 and 324) (motor mechanics, diesel mechanics etc)
    • Construction trades (ANZSCO 33) (plumbers, painters, carpenters, joiners etc)
    • Engineering trades (ANZSCO 322 and 323) (Forging and Finishing Trades Workers, Sheetmetal Trades Workers etc)
    • Electrical trades (ANZSCO 34) (Electricians, Electronics and Telecommunications Trades Workers)
    • Hairdresser (ANZSCO 391111)
    • Food Trades (ANZSCO 351) (chef, cook, bakers, pastry cooks, Butchers and Smallgoods Makers)

Long Term Residents:

Long Term Residents are categorised into 2 streams

Stream One: International Graduates

former international graduate of South Australia currently residing in South Australia, who has either:

  • residing in South Australia for last 5 years and currently working for last two months in any skilled occupation,
  • including all Skill Level 1, 2, 3 occupations
  • Residing in south Australia for last 7 years and working for last 12 months in any of the occupations within the ANZSCO 2 digit sub-major group or
    • 82 Construction and Mining Labourers
    • 83 Factory Process Workers
    • 84 Farm, Forestry and Garden Workers

Applicants are eligible for a 491 nomination only.

Stream Two: Other temporary visa holders (excluding student and graduate visa holders)

  • Already resided in South Australia for at least 5 years and continue to reside
  • Residents working in South Australia for the last 12 months in any occupation
  • Applicants are eligible for a 491 nomination only.
  • Work experience is defined as 20 Hours per week or 40 hours per fort night if living in greater Adelaide or 15 hours per week or 30 hours per fort night in our regional area

Applicants are eligible for a 491 nomination only.

Preference is given to the residents who

  • Have proficient English
  • Have at least 90 points in Expression of Interest including state nomination points
  • Are Working in nominated occupation and claiming points for the last 12 months
  • Are Residing in outer regional area of South Australia
