Indian-origin wrestler wins bronze at Commonwealth Wrestling Championship

An Indian-origin wrestler has won a bronze medal at the 13th commonwealth wrestling championships held in Johannesburg, South Africa between December 15 and December 17, 2017.

 

Sandhu who is also Australia’s national wrestling champion nailed bronze in 50 Kg category.

 

Sandhu told media that she is looking forward to represent Australia at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).

 

The Johannesburg championship was an amazing learning experience. The international competition helps you gain confidence,” Sandhu said.

 

“I played four matches – two wins and two impairment. I won my matches against Singapore and South Africa but lost both to Indian wrestlers.

 

“This collaboration will definitely help me prepare for the forthcoming international competitions.

 

“I am very optimistic for my selection to the wrestling incidental for GC18.

 

Sandhu won a Gold Medal in 48 Kg wrestling division in this year’s Australian National Championships seize in Sydney.

 

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) will be the volumetric sporting event Australia will see this decennary and the biggest sporting magnificent the Gold Coast has ever seen.

 

On 4 April 2018, over 6,600 athletes and team commissary from 70 nations and territories will converge on the Gold Coast for an 11-day sporting and cultural event.

 

According to the organizer, a spectacle of 18 sports and 7 para-sports will be antagonistic and broadcast to a cumulative global audience of 1.5 billion.
